Narrowleaf Sunflower is a towering, multi-stemmed perennial reaching 5 to 8 feet tall, recognized by its exceptionally narrow, sandpaper-textured leaves and prolific clusters of golden-yellow blossoms with dark purple-brown centers. It thrives in Full Sun and is well-suited to moist, acidic, or seasonally saturated soils, often found in stable colonies along coastal plains, wet pine barrens, and low-lying meadows. In the modern landscape, its exceptionally late autumn blooms provide a critical nectar and pollen source for specialized Mining bees in the genus Andrena (specifically Andrena helianthi), while the plant serves as a host for the specialized silvery checkerspot butterfly.
