New England Groundsel (Packera schweinitziana)

New England ragwort is a cool climate, moisture loving perennial reaching 1 to 2 feet tall, recognized by its rosettes of thick, oblong basal leaves and flat-topped clusters of bright yellow, daisy like blossoms. It thrives in Full Sun to Part Shade and is well suited to saturated, acidic, or sandy soils, typically found in high quality northern fens, damp meadows, and rocky alpine seeps. In the modern landscape, its early summer nectar provides a critical energy source for diverse native pollinators, while the plant serves as a host for the specialized northern Metalmark butterfly.
